ASP.NET Web Forms

2002 – 2013

Overview

ASP.NET Web Forms was Microsoft's dominant web framework through the 2000s, built around a page lifecycle, server controls and ViewState. A large number of enterprise intranets and portals still run on it, usually accumulating years of feature additions on top of an architecture nobody remaining fully understands.

What we handle

  • Bug fixes and new features inside the existing Web Forms application
  • Performance tuning around ViewState, page lifecycle and session state
  • Keeping the application running through server, IIS and Framework upgrades
  • Exposing Web Forms functionality through a modern API for new front ends
  • Incremental migration of individual pages to MVC or current .NET

What this usually looks like

Signs your ASP.NET Web Forms system needs a specialist, not a generalist.

The bridge

Old and new, working together

Migrate the application page by page to ASP.NET MVC or a modern front end, while the rest of the Web Forms app keeps running underneath.
